Our Rooms

In our Baby Room we have highly experienced staff whose priority is to follow the home routine of each baby as closely as possible. We have a spacious play area and a quiet and secure sleeping area. We provide a variety of stimulating activities in a caring and friendly environment in order to promote your baby’s all round development. All planning will be displayed on the room wall for you to view and see what activities and development your child will be participating in that week.

Parents are asked to supply nappies and breast milk to ensure continuity between home and nursery. We are a breast feeding friendly nursery and our staff are trained in the storage and use of breast milk. We welcome you visiting to feed during the day where possible.

When your baby is around 2 years and once they have found their feet we would hope to advance them to the Toddlers Room. This would take place after discussions with yourself.

After the Baby Room we would look to move your child to the Toddler Room. This should happen when your child is about 2 years old. We will discuss the transition process with you before any room changes happen.

The Toddler Room provides a structured day with a much greater choice of learning opportunities including arts and crafts, construction activities, table top games and much more. We also introduce early numeracy and literacy skills and activities designed to develop your child’s communication skills.

Holyrood Nursery Haydock is recognised as a pre-school centre by the Education Department. In the Pre-School Room children will follow the Early Years Foundation Stage. Your child will progress to the Pre-School Room at around 3 years of age. Our children visit the local care home every week. It is part of the "Bridge across the ages" programme.

We pride ourselves on ensuring that when children leave the nursery to move on to school they do so confidently and independently, taking with them an enjoyment in learning and a pride in their achievements. We strive for your child to have the following skills when leaving the nursery: recognising and writing their own name, demonstrating good observational skills, showing preliminary reading skills, able to confidently control a pencil, showing creative skills and knowledge of numbers.

At the end of each year the children take part in a graduation ceremony where they are presented with their leaving certificates and there is always a special party to mark the end of their time at Holyrood.

Our Breakfast Club opens at 7.45am and children arrive to a choice of cereals and/or toast, with milk/juice or water. There are a choice of console games to play (Wii, Xbox, Playstation, Arcade console or Laptop) and children have access to the outdoor area which is located in the grounds of Legh Vale where they football, rounders, cricket, running races or parachute games plus many more. The children also have access to a variety of messy activities including painting and junk modelling. Children are taken to across to school by our staff at 8.50am.

At After School Club staff collect children at 3.30pm and bring them back to enjoy snacks such as beans and toast, scones, hot dogs, a choice of sandwiches or toast, fruit or biscuits. We encourage outdoor activities, arts and crafts, baking, quiz nights and cinema nights. We also have a Wii, PlayStation, Xbox, laptops and arcade games.

Children can also get involved with our eco project and become ambassadors for our nursery, promoting healthy eating, recycling, planting and growing. The children have access to a small allotment area where they can plant a variety of plants, fruit and vegetables. Staff plan creative activities around the children’s interests also.

*Please note we only drop off and pick up from Legh Vale Primary School.

Our Holiday Club runs in conjunction with school holidays at Legh Vale Primary School. Holiday Club is very similar to Breakfast and After School Club in that we offer a full range of activities and equipment from baking and craft, to PlayStation and cinema. We visit the local Sankey Valley park and go on nature trails with the rangers, and often invite our local police and fire brigade to visit us. We host talent shows and events themed around the seasons, and always encourage the children to plan and direct their own activities.

We love to get outside at Holyrood Haydock! We have two play areas dedicated to our 0-2s and 2-5 year olds. We have a dedicated outdoor play area for our 2-5 year olds and a separate area for our 0-2s.

The outdoor play area for our Toddler and Preschool children includes a digging pit, play house, story area, large grassed area with wooden climbing frame and slide. We encourage the children to use their imaginations outside and we even play out in the rain, so don't forget to pack your wellies and rain coats!

In our baby garden we enjoy getting fresh air and our little babies love feeling the textures of the grass. Our staff team also encourages lots of messy and sensory play to make the most of being outdoors.

As well as access to our fabulous outdoor play areas, children of all ages enjoy regular walks in the local area. Our youngest children are often seen out in our double buggies enjoying the fresh air, sights and sounds of the local community.
